Chasing a heartbeat, karaoke edition

A few days ago, I wrote about how I wanted to chase a heartbeat. So I set up a list that, when I look back on it now, is very random and I would like to ask myself what the frick I was thinking.

▫ Learn skateboarding (or maybe just learn to not fall off a skateboard)
▫ See an old school japanese movie
▫ Go winter swimming
▫ Do something spontaneous
▫ Say yes to something you always say no to
▫ Go storm hunting (I do love a good storm)
▫ Walk through the rain and get soaked to the bone
▫ Sing karaoke

But the list is there and I decided to make fast work. Since I cannot influence the seasons and go for that winter swim or a dance in the rain, I took the initiative to plan a karaoke with my two best friends. I have to admit that those little worms are the only ones I trust in such an endavour. They did not hesitate to agree and found it all very amusing.

When we arrived we had a good laugh about my poop-covered car (I live in a street with a lot of trees and the local jackdaws are my mortal enemies, but that is for another time). Inside, it was very atmospheric with the subdued neon lights and cosy corners filled with soft sofa's and stone tables.

I went up to the register to check on my reservation and before we knew it we were lead to a room. We did not even have the time to take of our coats or the attendant whisked out of the room, the door falling shut behind them. The three of us looked at each other questioningly. Then suddenly, as if my discomfort broke the dubious air, they shook their coats from their backs and started to set up the first song. One of them thrusted one of the microphones in my hands while the other played giddily with the smoke machine.

From the start of the first song till the last notes of "I'll be there for you" we almost never stopped dancing, laughing and jumping around. My favourite part was when I learned that one of them can sing almost every rap part of any Nicki Minaj song and the other tried to solo sing every High School musical song in existence (after 4 songs me and the other friend had to restrain them).

Later, one of them confided in me that they were very stressed during the drive to the location since they were not so sure how they would react to singing with the three of us. That bastard sang the loudest of us all and had the gall to airily step out after our session and say "well, that was refreshing".

I had so much fun and have no regrets planning this trip. Less than a heartbeat, I felt more of a heart squeeze. Looking at the two of them, that warm cozy blanket once again fell around me. My throat felt raw the whole weekend, but it was worth it.

With this I can happily cross off one on the list!

Let's sing together on a summer evening again, shall we.
