The benefit of a car drive
Having my friends spread across the country has the benefit of having some time to unwind in the car while driving to meet them.
Before the pandemic, I was hardly working from home and I had to drive everyday to work and back. What I did not know then, was that I often took that time to clear my head before and after work. Closing the mental tabs, so to speak. Working from home has a lot more benefits, don't get me wrong, but I noticed I find it harder to close the door and relax.
Having to drive the distance gives you time to wake up while at home I feel pressured to get behind the screen. It also gave the time to process the day's information and by the time you were home, you had the energy again to make a meal. I also notice I work longer (since I have "more time" that I would have spend in traffic) and I don't take time to unwind before starting to cook.
So when I do get in the car, I almost feel grateful for the time I get to spend on the road with some music in the background. It also gives me the time to appreciate how lovely the stormy clouds look with the soft rays of sun bravely breaking through from time to time.
Let's take another car ride when weather is clear and the sun low on the horizon. Maybe with a friend to keep me company.
