Things that annoy me but that are socially not punishable, so I can only give a dirty look and call my best friend to complain about it
Do you ever think you're a positive, well-balanced person, only to step out in public and realize you’re probably harboring a little angry gremlin inside, hidden beneath a thin veneer of culture and decent upbringing? Very nice. Please, have a seat at my table, because I’ve got a few things on my mind that make me instantly dislike someone — and I am in desperate need of a good complaining session.
Things people do that vex me to no end:
You’re eating with company, and you say, "Enjoy your meal!" before starting—only for them to respond with "Thanks!" and immediately dig in, without wishing it back.
Along the same lines: you're waiting for everyone to sit down, and there’s always that one person who scrapes their chair loudly, plops down with a grunt and a sigh, grabs the biggest portion imaginable, and starts eating without waiting for the others. They’re always the first to go for seconds, too — without checking if anyone else might want more.
People who play music or YouTube clips on the bus without headphones, at full volume.
People who gargle snot and spit it out in public.
People who don’t return their shopping cart after they’re done.
Groups that stop in the middle of the street to have a conversation, blocking the way for everyone else.
People who say things like, "Oh, you know I can’t help it; I’m just too kind," or "It’s just who I am, I always have to help people."
I accept that I’m a petty person—it is what it is. But I find comfort in the fact that throughout history, people have always been annoyed by their fellow humans. In a way, I’m just continuing the tradition. Maybe in a few hundred years, someone will read this, chuckle, and say, "People never change."
