Things that make you anxious

A passing train at high speed. Even worse if it is a heavy freight train. An old person who is ill for an extended period of time. Hearing a ripping sound but not knowing where it is coming from. An unexpected thunderstorm. An alarm goes off in the middle of the night. When it's at one of your neighbours' house, you are sure to be startled. You are sure you had locked everything properly, yet the door opens without having to fully turn the key. A glass falls to the ground but you were not around at all to have knocked it over. A cat hisses at the void. I am not superstitious but still it is not pleasant. You have composed a formal reply to a difficult question at work and are left waiting for a response. A steep staircase in a narrow tower. High places without railings. A rusty support beam or pillar. The period when the acceptance letters of the colleges arrive always make me anxious, even when it is no longer your turn you always know someone who is waiting with trepidation.
